TWO VISIONS • ONE PROPHETIC FRAMEWORK
Daniel 2 & Daniel 7 | Luke 21:24

THE FOUNDATIONAL PROPHECY

Daniel received two parallel visions showing the same four kingdoms from radically different perspectives. Together, they define the Times of the Gentiles — the era when Gentile powers would dominate Jerusalem and Israel, from Babylon's first conquest to the return of the King.

WHAT ARE THE TIMES OF THE GENTILES?

"And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled." — Luke 21:24

The Times of the Gentiles is the prophetic era when Gentile nations dominate over Jerusalem and Israel. It began when Babylon first conquered Jerusalem, and it will end when the Stone (Daniel 2) or the Son of Man (Daniel 7) returns to establish God's eternal kingdom.

THE COMPLETE TIMELINE

May 14, 1948
TURNING POINT: Israel becomes a sovereign nation again (after 2,554 years)
June 7, 1967
CRITICAL MILESTONE: Jerusalem under Jewish control (Six-Day War)
PRESENT
FINAL PHASE: Ten toes/Ten horns forming. Revived Roman Empire (EU?). Little Horn rising.
FUTURE
END: Stone strikes / Son of Man returns. Gentile kingdoms destroyed. God's kingdom established forever.

WHY 1948/1967 MATTERS

For 2,554 years (606 BC to 1948 AD), Israel had no sovereignty. For 2,573 years (606 BC to 1967 AD), Jerusalem was not under Jewish control. These fulfillments signal we are in the final phase of the Times of the Gentiles — the era of the ten toes (Daniel 2) and ten horns (Daniel 7).

THE TWO VISIONS — SAME KINGDOMS, DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES

Daniel 2 and Daniel 7 describe the exact same four kingdoms in the exact same order. The difference is the perspective:

DANIEL 2: THE STATUE

MAN'S PERSPECTIVE
Daniel's Statue - Four Kingdoms
  • Recipient: Nebuchadnezzar (pagan king)
  • Form: A glorious statue of metals
  • Viewpoint: Empires appear magnificent, powerful, impressive
  • Symbolism: Gold, silver, bronze, iron — decreasing value but increasing strength
  • Focus: The materials and structure of human government
  • Ending: Stone cut without hands strikes feet, becomes mountain filling earth

DANIEL 7: THE BEASTS

GOD'S PERSPECTIVE
Daniel's Four Beasts
  • Recipient: Daniel (prophet of God)
  • Form: Ravenous wild beasts
  • Viewpoint: Empires are predatory, destructive, beastly
  • Symbolism: Lion, bear, leopard, terrifying beast — increasing ferocity
  • Focus: The violent, devouring nature of human kingdoms
  • Ending: Ancient of Days judges, Son of Man receives eternal kingdom

The contrast is profound: what man sees as glorious, God sees as monstrous. What man admires as civilization, God sees as predation.

THE FIRST BEAST — A PROPHETIC TRANSFORMATION

BABYLON: FROM BEAST TO MAN

"The first was like a lion, and had eagle's wings: I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man's heart was given to it." — Daniel 7:4

Lion with Eagle Wings - Before
STAGE 1: THE GLORY

Lion with eagle's wings — Babylon at its peak. Swift conquests, royal power, Nebuchadnezzar's magnificence.

Lion Standing as Man - After
STAGE 2: THE HUMBLING

Wings plucked, standing as a man — Nebuchadnezzar struck with madness (Daniel 4), lived as a beast for 7 years, then restored and converted.

This is the only beast that experiences transformation. Nebuchadnezzar is the only pagan king who acknowledged the Most High God and was given "a man's heart." The other beasts remain unchanged — predators to the end.

THE FOUR BEASTS — VISUAL GALLERY

Each beast becomes more ferocious than the last. Each empire becomes more destructive. The progression moves from regal (lion) to brutal (bear) to swift (leopard) to terrifying beyond description (fourth beast).

WHY THIS IS THE FOUNDATIONAL PROPHECY

All other prophecies in Daniel (and much of Revelation) fit within this four-kingdom framework:

DANIEL 9 (70 WEEKS) — WHEN MESSIAH COMES

Daniel 9:24-27 provides the mathematical timeline: 483 years (69 weeks × 7) from the decree to rebuild Jerusalem to Messiah the Prince. This prophecy is fulfilled during the fourth kingdom (Rome) — Jesus was born under Augustus, crucified under Pontius Pilate. The 70th week (final 7 years) remains future, ending with the Little Horn's defeat.

DANIEL 11-12 (KINGS OF NORTH & SOUTH) — DETAILED HISTORY

Daniel 11:1-35 provides extraordinary detail about the third kingdom (Greece) — specifically the wars between the Ptolemies (Egypt/South) and Seleucids (Syria/North) for 375+ years. Daniel 11:36-45 then jumps to the future Antichrist (the Little Horn) during the final phase of the fourth kingdom.

REVELATION 13, 17 (THE BEAST) — FINAL FORM

Revelation 13 describes the Beast with seven heads and ten horns — this is the final form of the fourth kingdom. The ten horns are the same as Daniel 7's ten horns and Daniel 2's ten toes. The Beast's 42-month reign matches the Little Horn's "time, times, and half a time" (3.5 years = 42 months). Same entity, same timeframe, same ending.

Understanding the Times of the Gentiles framework is essential for understanding all end-times prophecy. These two visions — the Statue and the Beasts — provide the skeleton upon which every other prophetic detail is built.

THE END OF THE TIMES OF THE GENTILES

Both visions show the same dramatic ending:

Daniel 2 — The Stone Strikes

"Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces. Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth." — Daniel 2:34-35

Daniel 7 — The Ancient of Days Judges

"I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake: I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame... I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed." — Daniel 7:11, 13-14

THE RETURN OF THE KING

The Stone and the Son of Man are the same person — Jesus Christ. At His first coming, He was "cut off" (Daniel 9:26) and rejected. At His second coming, He returns with the clouds to destroy all Gentile kingdoms and establish His eternal reign. The Times of the Gentiles will end suddenly and violently when He strikes.

CONCLUSION

The Times of the Gentiles began in 606 BC when Nebuchadnezzar first conquered Jerusalem. For 2,554 years, Israel had no sovereignty. For 2,573 years, Jerusalem was trampled by Gentiles.

Then, in 1948, Israel became a nation again. In 1967, Jerusalem came under Jewish control. Luke 21:24 is being fulfilled before our eyes: "Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled."

We are in the final phase. The infrastructure for ten-region global governance is being built (the ten toes, the ten horns). The stage is set for the Little Horn. The next event is the return of the Stone — the Son of Man — to shatter every earthly kingdom and establish His reign forever.

The Times of the Gentiles are running out.
